Generative Art is the idea realized as genetic code of artificial objects. The generative project is a concept-software that works producing three-dimensional unique and non-repeatable events as possible and manifold expressions of the generating idea identified by the designer as a visionary world. This Idea / human creative act renders explicit and realizes an unpredictable, amazing and endless expansion of human creativity. Computers are simply the tools for its storage in memory and execution. This approach opens a new era in design and industrial production: the challenge of a new naturalness of the industrial object as a mirror of Nature. ...

WHAT IS GENERATIVE ART? We have a couple of definitions so far about what constitutes generative art. Feel free to send us some more. Generative art is a term given to work which stems from concentrating on the processes involved in producing an artwork, usually (although not strictly) automated by the use of a machine or computer, or by using mathematic or pragmatic instructions to define the rules by which such artworks are executed. Generative art refers to any art practice where the artist creates a process, such as a set of natural language rules, a computer program, a machine, ...

Generative art refers to art that in whole or in part has been created with the use of an autonomous system. An autonomous system in this context is one that is non-human and can independently determine features of an artwork that would otherwise require decisions made directly by the artist. In casual use "generative art" is often used to refer to computer generated artwork that is algorithmically determined. But generative art can also be made using systems of chemistry, biology, mechanics and robotics, smart materials, manual randomization, mathematics, data mapping, symmetry and tiling, and more. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Musikalisches Wrfelspiel" ...

From Code to Atoms workshop at iMAL, Brussels culminated last Friday in an exhibition of works created during the week. As expected there is a wide range of works and expressions, from Makerbotted data sculptures (Frederik Vanhoutte, Andrej Boleslavsky, Katerina Konstantopoulos + Erato Choli) to distorted 3D scanned objects (Matthew Plummer-Fernandez) and parametric paper folding (Julien Deswaef). For a complete overview of the workshop and its results, take a look at the Flickr tag GX30 which currently covers over 1000 uploads. Another important resource is iMALs wiki site Wikimal, which includes source code and tutorials published in connection with the ...
